Mary M. Struzska-Tyamayev
Ph.D. Candidate

I am a Ph.D. candidate in Organization Studies at the Carroll School of Management at Boston College.

My research explores how people manage and (re)claim their social identities as their social communities evolve, and how they navigate this process in the workplace. Specifically, I study how broader forces, like global events, sociopolitical tensions, and shifting climates, shape workplace identity processes.

I hold an M.A. in International Higher Education and Intercultural Relations from Lesley University and a B.A. in International Studies and Latin American, Caribbean and Iberian Studies from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, with additional academic and professional experiences in Argentina and Ireland.

From Practice to Theory

Prior to my doctoral studies, I functioned as the Senior International Officer at Simmons University, where I led global engagement strategy, compliance, and donor-funded initiatives. Over the course of a decade in international higher education, I managed international partnerships and held program and curriculum development roles at several institutions, designing experiential, inclusive and interculturally informed experiences for students.

This work sparked my interest in how identity, context, and organizations shape people’s experiences, all questions that I now explore through research.

WHAT DRIVES ME

Across all of my work, I’m committed to research that is meaningful, socially grounded, and attentive to the lived experiences of varied communities. I strive to contribute to conversations bridging academic inquiry and real-world relevance.
